Preliminary Steps in Jewish Spirituality
with Rabbi Roy Tanenbaum

This is a four-week e-course that one may take in one's own time. The course will be posted when we have a minimum of six registrants. Discussion will take place through group e-mail.

Course Syllabus:

Step One: A Tepid Drop

Kippa.  Not in control.  Letting go.  The danger in

things going well.  Another driver.

Step Two: G‑d Does Not Make Junk, My Body

Mikveh.  Respect for the body.  The bathroom prayer.  A

hospital patient.  Sex.  The divine image.

Step Three: G‑d Does Not Make Junk, My Mind

Torah study.  "The soul is pure."  Recognizing our inner worth.  Love

your neighbour as yourself.  Grasshoppers in their

sight.  The lack of self‑esteem.  "I" leads to "Thou."

Step Four: No Contradictions

Tefillin.  Body vs. Mind.  Souls with bodies attached.  I

am but dust and ashes.  For me the world was created.

Humility vs. self‑respect.  G‑d is the element that

resolves the tension of life.

Suggestions for Preparatory Reading: The first step will deal with the

kippa.  Read anything you can find on the subject.
