Becoming a Member
Membership Process

Beth Tzedec's goal is to build an affirmative Judaism, to bring the miracle of the Bible into our daily lives, to plant love of our tradition in our hearts, to inspire respect for religious life in our community and to promote a religious fellowship among all its citizens. We are a full-service synagogue, providing a home for all sectors of the congregation's community. As a magnet shul, we have been blessed with a sizeable membership that allows us to focus our programming to meet individual needs. Our Shabbat Synaplex, and the extent and variety of our programming in our Lifelong Learning Centre enable each member to find a warm and congenial niche.

Find a place for yourself:

University Students,    Generation Hutzpah,      Young Families,

Little Minyan,     Sisterhood,    Men's Club,      Senior Haverim

If you are considering membership at Beth Tzedec, we invite you to complete the convenient request form online, or give the Synagogue a call at 416-781-3514, ext 220 to request a membership information packet, or to make an appointment with our membership co-ordinator.

Your Financial Responsibility as a Member of Beth Tzedec:

Beth Tzedec supports our members and our vision with your annual personal commitment.  We have never made “financial wealth” a basis for membership, participation, or recognition.  Our fundamental precept is one of democracy.  As a community, we rely on each other to make possible all the good works of the Beth Tzedec family – the learning, the worship, the sharing.  Beth Tzedec is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  When you need the pastoral support of our rabbis, or our cantors, they are available for you.  When you have a simcha, we are here to celebrate with you; when sadness or tragedy strikes, we are here offering comfort and support.

Your annual membership contribution provides support for our many spiritual, educational and  social programs, and the highest quality  education for our children and adults.  Your membership contribution is your commitment in the future of the Jewish people.  Remember that there are many  organizations that raise funds to support Judaism but only a synagogue raises Jews.

Personal Commitment

Those who have more help those who cannot.  We are a "Fair Share" membership synagogue where annual contributions are based on each family's own financial situation.  Membership contributions fund about 70% of our operating expenses.  The rest comes from Congregational School tuition, Adult Education, B'nai Mitzvah fees, and donations to our synagogue's general funds.

Beth Tzedec has several committees that plan and oversee the direction of our Congregation. We encourage you to participate in one or more of these groups, as a way to meet your fellow congregants and to ensure that our shul's activities are meaningful to you and your family.

Yes, we have a Building Fund

We expect every member of the congregation to pledge to the Capital Campaign, which is also based on a fair share system.

A note about Congregational School Registration:
