The Beth Tzedec Shabbat Synaplex

What are you seeking?

SHABBAT

One size does not fit all. Our Beth Tzedec congregation has multiple opportunities to learn, gather, pray and experience Shabbat together. For us, 'Synaplex' means expanding the many dimensions of Shabbat, every Shabbat. On any given Shabbat morning, you can find several complementary events, something for the person of any mood:

Sanctuary Services
Weekly formal Shabbat services, 8:45 a.m. Let your prayers soar with the world-renowned music of Hazzan Simon Spiro and the Beth Tzedec Choir. Our Rabbanim Baruch Frydman-Kohl, Roy Tanenbaum, or Sean Gorman offer insights into our Torah and tradition. Lorne Hanick, incorporating a cadre of Torah Readers/Ba'alei T'filla under his direction, leads introductory Services and covers the reading of the portion of the week.

Little Minyan
Weekly Shabbat services, 9:30 a.m., in the intimacy of the Jacob Hendeles Chapel or as indicated.  Informal lay-led, participatory services that are adult centered while child friendly—a modern-day shteibl. A real social experience: teens with teens, singles meeting singles, families, and all ages are welcome. Participants study the Torah portion of the week together, join together in singing, and those who are able lead the services and read Torah and Haftara. A song tape is available.

Torah Study with Dr. Arnold Ages
Down the hall and around the corner, in the Nathan O. & Roey Hurwich Board Room, weekly Shabbat Torah study, 9:30-10:30 a.m. A combination of traditional and modern interpretations of the weekly Torah reading with Beth Tzedec's eloquent Scholar-in-Residence. TORAH STUDY SHEETS

Jr. Congregation, age 6-12
Weekly during the school year except when there is a Family Service, 10:30 a.m.-noon; a way for our kids to learn by leading.
Tz’irim, age 3-5
Weekly 10:30-noon. Includes snacks, fun, games, stories, prayer and learning. At the same time, join us in the Sanctuary or The Little Minyan.

The "Back" Minyan
Because it's in the back! Weekly "no frills" service with separate seating, 9:30 a.m. in the first floor school wing.

Family Service
Meets monthly at 10:30 a.m.in the Hendeles Chapel. For parents and grandparents with children ranging in age from 1-13. This is a Ramah style service and is participatory and led by the children and parents who are present. Monthly birthday blessing plus an Aliyah for all the birthday celebrants. A family song tape is available. Kiddush luncheon following services in the Lower Hall.

Midrash and Muffins
Join Rav Sean Gorman and Generation Hutzpah as we chat about the weekly portion in Rabbi Frydman-Kohl’s study. Meets monthly, 10:15 a.m. Click for dates.

STEP Services
9:30
a.m. for eight weeks in the fall. Services to enhance your understanding and ability with the prayers. An opportunity to overcome the what-page-are-we-on-now blues. We welcome you.

Monthly Torah Study
Bring your kiddush food and join us right after services, Saturdays, Shabbat M’vorkhim, in the Youth Chapel. Eat, Drink and Learn Torah with Hazzan Spiro. Traditional insights from a fun guy. Hebrew school was never like this. Click for dates.
