Joys of Jewish Music with Dr. Judith Cohen

Sephardic Songs: The Real Story

Nov 22 2016, 1:30PM to 3:30PM in the .
NOTE: This event has already occurred.

Do you know the difference between Ladino and Sephardic music? Or how old these beautiful songs really are? Do they have any connection at all with Yiddish songs? Ethnomusicologist and singer Dr. Judith Cohen both explains the tradition and sings it. You will meet, through photos and voices, some of the Sephardic women she has recorded over many years of traveling around the Mediterranean—from Spain and Morocco to Turkey, Greece and Israel. Judith will sing the old ballads and wedding songs that are rarely heard today.
