We are thrilled to announce that Cantor Chaim Stern will be joining Beth Tzedec as The Hennick Family Senior Cantor beginning in early July.

Born and raised in Israel, Cantor Stern began his musical education at a young age and developed his vocal talent at the Cantorial School in Petach Tikva. He studied hazzanut under several leading cantors and was deeply influenced by the classical Eastern European cantorial tradition as well as contemporary musical styles. He has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras and choirs across Europe and Israel.

Before joining Beth Tzedec, Cantor Stern served as Chief Cantor of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde München und Oberbayern (Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria), one of the largest and most historically significant Jewish communities in Germany. During his tenure in Munich, he became known for revitalizing the community’s musical and liturgical life, initiating innovative musical programs, interfaith concerts, and community initiatives that resonated with members of all ages.

Cantor Stern is known not only for his powerful tenor voice and deep liturgical knowledge, but also for his warm presence, his ability to connect personally with congregants, and his passion for Jewish culture and tradition.

A special thank you to our Cantor Search committee for their hard work and due diligence over the past year, led by Corinne Promislow and Mitch Max.

We are confident that Cantor Stern, along with our own Cantor Sid Ezer, will together make Beth Tzedec a worldwide leader in cantorial music.

Cantor Stern is scheduled to arrive on July 4; however, we will be watching updates about flights out of Israel and pray for his safe travel. Please join us in welcoming Cantor Stern to the Beth Tzedec community.
