We are thrilled to announce that Cantor Chaim Stern will be joining Beth Tzedec as The Hennick Family Senior Cantor beginning in early July.
Born and raised in Israel, Cantor Stern began his musical education at a young age and later honed his vocal talents at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He studied hazzanut under several renowned cantors and was deeply influenced by both the classical Eastern European cantorial tradition and contemporary musical styles.
In addition to his cantorial training, Cantor Stern holds a degree in musicology and has performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras and choirs across Europe and Israel.
Before joining Beth Tzedec, Cantor Stern most recently served as Chief Cantor of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde München und Oberbayern (Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria), one of the largest and most historically significant Jewish communities in Germany. During his tenure in Munich, he was widely recognized for revitalizing the musical and liturgical life of the congregation, introducing innovative musical programming, interfaith concerts, and community initiatives that resonated with members of all ages.
In addition, Cantor Stern regularly performs in Jewish communities around the world and in major synagogues in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Ramat Gan, as well as in the United States, Australia, and Europe.
Cantor Stern is known not only for his powerful tenor voice and deep liturgical knowledge, but also for his warm presence, his ability to connect with congregants on a personal level, and his passion for Jewish culture and tradition. A special thank you to our Cantor Search committee for their hard work and due diligence over the past year, led by Corinne Promislow and Mitch Max.
We are confident that Cantor Stern, along with our own Cantor Sid Ezer, will together make Beth Tzedec a worldwide leader in cantorial music.
Cantor Stern is scheduled to arrive on July 4; however, we will be watching updates about flights out of Israel and pray for his safe travel. Please join us in welcoming Cantor Stern to the Beth Tzedec community.
