Nicky's Family
Film Screening and Discussion with Producer Joe Schlesinger
NOTE: This event has already occurred.
An extraordinary humanitarian story from WWII that didn't come to light for decades. Recently featured on CBS's 60 Minutes -- a 29 year old London stockbroker named Nicholas Winton who went to Prague and ended up saving the lives of 669 children from the Nazis. Sir Winton is a British humanitarian who organized the rescue of these children from German-occupied Czechoslavakia on the eve of World War II.
The story illustrates how, in the midst of so much evil, good people were willing to risk their lives in order to help others. It wasn't until 1988 that Winton's efforts were revealed, after which he was knighted and given several awards for his efforts.
Joe Schlesinger, a former CBC journalist, is the producer of Nicky's Family and one of the children saved by Nicholas Winton. Come see the film, meet Mr. Schlesinger and learn how one act of kindness by one man changed the world.
"Enthralling, evocative. A true story of heroism." - New York Times
"Very inspiring and incredibly emotional." - Toronto Film Scene
Everyone welcome; Dessert reception included.
