Shabbat Scholar Weekend

Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25

Beth Tzedec is pleased to welcome Hallel Silverman, an American-born, Israeli-raised digital activist located in Tel Aviv, for a Shabbat scholar weekend on the theme "A Civil Israeli Society". 

  • Friday beginning at 5:15 p.m. — Family Shabbat Dinner presentation 
    Following the Shabbat dinner, Hallel Silverman will speak about the role Israeli civil society plays in maintaining the democratic character of the State of Israel. (Dinner is by pre-registration only.)

  • Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. — Shabbat Morning Pulpit presentation
    In her first Shabbat presentation, Hallel will give a morning sermon on the topic "The Progressive Zionist", sharing her thoughts on the the risks and opportunities posed by Israel's current government to the Diaspora Jewry.

  • Saturday afternoon at 12:15 p.m. — Congregational Kiddush presentation
    At the Congregational Kiddush, Hallel joins Rabbi Fryer Bodzin where they will commemorate and speak about the ten years since their arrests at the Kotel.

With nearly a decade in Israel Advocacy, Hallel has created and executed content for dozens of major organizations and has been a leading voice online for progressive Zionism. She is an associate at the Tel Aviv Institute.
