Monday Night Movie - My Herzl

Sep 30 2013, 7:30PM to 9:30PM
NOTE: This event has already occurred.

Join us for a screening of My Herzl – A documentary film about the life and times of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern political Zionism.

My Herzl is set in locales inextricably associated with Herzl, such as Basel, Switzerland where the first Zionist Congress took place in 1897 and where Herzl prophetically predicted the birth of Israel within 50 years. Herzl sacrificed his own wealth, health and family to his objective of creating a Jewish state. The film, a blend of history and travelogue, features the observations of Robert Wistrich, a Hebrew University historian and specialist in antisemitism, who describes Herzl as a person who transformed himself in the face of anti-Jewish animosity in 19th-century Europe.

This film was shot in part at Beth Tzedec and was produced by Beth Tzedec member David Matlow.
